    Of espressos and rain

My last day of fun before I head back to college for another crazy semester.

    Today's events were caused (partly) by this guilty party;

    espresso

Warning: One shot can load you up for fun filled hours of hype enough to cause severe brain damage and chills. Drink at your own risk.

We had gone for a manicure in the evening simply because we're girls. Soon after the waving of hands tapered, we headed out to grab a bite to eat. By then it was raining cats and dogs. Does it matter? The stomach beckons.

We ended up at this Italian café called, Italian Cafe. Yeah, I know. It could've been Italiano Caffè in the least, but nooo they assumed we would have trouble reading or everyone on the island would try to learn the language just to translate the sign. Well, at least the food and service compensated for the cliché sign.

All in all, the food was marvelous. Beef lasagna, chicken parmesan, penne or spaghetti with your choice of sauce and a list of western food. BUT I have to make an exception.
The onion soup is to die for. I. Shit. You. Not. Arf.

To top it off, I noticed an espresso machine on the bar counter that seemed to beckon for work. So a silly idea came up for all of us to have a cup and stay awake for no good reason. This is where the owner came over to fortify our orders for four espressos. Perhaps we looked raw to the idea of espressos.

The cups came. And we toasted-- again, for the heck of it. Downed it. There was no kick, at first. By then the owner had come back to, I don't know, check on us or explain to us on 'The History of Espressos'; only to realise there weren't any left. His eyes widened as he noted everyone's empty glasses and said, "Wow, very good." I'm guessing his mind was playing, Dio mio! can (1)Non può essere giusto.

    By the time it came to pay the bill our brains were malfunctioning on hype. Maybe it was all in the mind? Anyway, we came out to find the rain turned torrential! And... *drumroll;

Katy decides to hop into the car and reverse it close enough for us to jump in. She sprints to the car and gets to the door. Suddenly she starts waving at us and mouths something. Yvonne, Jay and I look at each other trying to figure out what it is.
"Oh no, I think she left her car keys in the bag," Jay said. Which she held on to to protect it from the rain. Suddenly, the car lights come on. Ok, that's not right. Katy runs back to us and say, "Oh my God, you guys should come stand in the rain. It's so fun!" We burst out laughing.

I liked the she-left-the-car-keys-in-her-bag-and-has-to-run-back-to-get-it-to-further-wet-herself idea. But this is just amusing. Anyway, long story short we were bought over. Must be another espresso hysteria... =.="

We drove over to the beach. Katy leaves her headlights on so we could see what we were stepping onto and jump out of the car into the pouring rain.

It wasn't fun. It was stupendous! We kept running about, jumping up and down, splashing puddles at our feet and flipping our hair from side to side till our heads were spinning. Yes, we were acting like kids. How long back have you been that carefree?

Soon after, we were at our peak of coming up with crazy ideas.
*Discretionary information shall be withheld for the purpose of protection of others
    :P

    Without warning...
"Shit! A car's coming!" Katy screams. We all stutter and stumble on each other. "Shit! It's a cop car!" she screams again. We hustled and staggered. To make matters worse, they stopped right in front of the car. Everyone immediately stopped in their tracks and stared. Oh my God, we're going to jail, I thought.

"Wait, the car's blocking their way," the genius, Jay said. "Oh yeah."
And we all jump into the car and head off... to another beach! We continue with our dancing and prancing, accompanied by singing. Also manage to snap a couple of pictures.

    Yvonne, Jay, me, Katy

We were trying to figure out songs we all could sing to. Any happy tune. Turns out the only thing we could all remember was the school anthem. Gave up on that.

It soon came the time for us to leave- due to cold shivers- and.... face the consequences. Parents.
I wonder what they're gonna say when they see me like this.
    --end.

p/s: Everyone was asleep by the time I got back. The others were pretty much safe too. And everyone slept off anyway from the exhaustion due to the overdose of hype :)

    'Pay It Forward'

Initially I thought the movie, directed by Mimi Leder was based on a true story. Turns out...
    WHAT IS “PAY IT FORWARD”?

“Pay It Forward” is a book written by Catherine Ryan Hyde, but it's also an idea. It's an action plan within a work of fiction. But does it have to be fiction? We're hoping not. In fact, since the book was released in January of 2000, a real-life social movement has emerged, not just in the U.S. but worldwide. What began as a work of fiction has already become much more.

...it was the other way around.
    One word, AMAZING

    Currently, there exists,
    Pay It Forward Foundation
    Pay It Forward UK
    Pass It Forward - Australia
    also,
Heinlein Society, based on the "Pay It Forward" movement

If it wasn't for watching the movie earlier today, I wouldn't have known about the cause. A must watch. Pay It Forward (2000)

The idea of PIF is a chain reaction movement whereby, there exists an obligation to do three good deeds for others in repayment of a good deed that one receives. Their goal is, of course, to make the world a better place.

Are you able to see the bigger picture here?

Can you imagine the outcome at the end of the day?

    Did you know that...

On October 26, 2006 Oprah gave her audience a challenge to Pay it Forward, giving 300 audience guests $1,000 USD on a debit card and a camcorder to record the acts of kindness they did. The rules of the challenge were very specific, the money had to be spent within one week and could only be used to help charitable organizations or an individual person but not a relative.
    --Wikipedia

I think it's way cool for a person to actually be rich and nice. Thanks Oprah!
Know what, had I found out about the movement earlier I would've told the people I've helped to this day to "Pay It Forward"!

    Spread the word! :D

    Bubbles

    The day was short.

It started with me waking up in time for lunch. As usual.
And going down to find Camy in front of the TV. As usual.
    Watching Korean shows. As usual.

And as Papa walked in the doors he bellowed, "Have you picked the colour?"
Ah, right. We're repainting the house. Some of it anyway.
So we set off debating about suitability, ugliness, gloominess and spaciousness.
Finally one of two-toned colours was decided to be... green. A pastel looking green. Yipes.

Papa bought the paint immediately and rushed off to work. I went to town to get some masking tape to come back to my dining table outside the house. Uhh..wha-?
I went in to find the two girls pumped up and excited to start on the new colour.
Before that, the ceiling had to be repainted.

3 girls. Painting. The ceiling. Oh, joy.
We were at near misses of paint dripping onto our hair! It didn't miss the balls of our feet either.
But well, it didn't turn out to be that bad after all. But I bet I'll get a shock when I walk down the stairs groggy tomorrow morning.

We were about done by 6pm. My job then was pretty much to tell the difference in tones which could not be established till the paint was totally dry. So I sneaked upstairs to wash up real quick at rush off to meet Jay, Katy and Yvonne who have been waiting for close to 2 hours. Whoops.

It's a nice feeling to be greeted with smiles and gales of "Andie!" when you enter a room.
That was pretty much it... with a couple of exceptions. Picture 3 people, staring intently at the menu trying to decide what to order. I enter, and "Andie!" with looks of relief on their faces.
    Okay, something wrong somewhereee...

Turns out, they've been sitting in Pizza Hut for the past 2 hours. Talking.
The waiter came over to ask them for their order. 4 times.
And they kept getting carried away with their chatter each time he came.
A few seconds before I came in they finally decided to get down to business and start ordering.
And they had trouble with the last order. Hahaha!

Somewhere in the conversation (while waiting ages for the food to come),
Yvonne took out a bottle of bubble solution and was trying to figure out how to get the brush back out. Katy did some magic, with an ice cream spoon. Don't ask.

Next thing we know, we ended up buying more bottles of bubbles for ourselves and some snacks and headed for the beach. But by the time we got there it had started drizzling. Dangit.
Yet everyone persisted to go ahead with the plan anyway!

After a few minutes and a couple of snaps, we were a bit soaked from the increasing drizzle.
On another note: I still like the snap of the headlights on asses, people. Haha.
We decided to head to Yvonne's house to kill some time and then, headed to McDonald's. We weren't even hungry (apparently).

(Oh, and I did say I would blog about this so here goes!)
Original plans were to munch on ice-cream and chat. Somehow one person ended up with a cone while the rest were with burgers, Cokes and fries. Hilarious.
I think we really are ditzes when we're together.

Turns out, some of us were suffering trying to polish our burgers. And there was still a stack of fries left. Katy and Jay started counting up the fries wondering how many each person’s worth was.

    “I say 20.”
    “I say 30.”
“Andie, how many would you say?”
    “I say… 1.”

There was no way I could eat 30 sticks of fries!
And Jay goes, “Okay! Everyone grab a fry and we’ll see how much each person has to eat.”

    1… 2… 3… 4… 5… 6… 7… "Let’s take a break…"
    8… 9… 10… 11… 12… "Wait, I can’t go on…"
"I think that’s gonna be more than 30 sticks per person."
    "See."

God knows why but we suddenly stopped counting and started talking again.
    Thank God.
Next thing you know 4 hours flew by! Fuyoo.
And we still haven’t had enough of the bubbles.

    'Death is not an eraser'

    Damn, I love Russell Andrews.
    Best thriller novelist E-VER!
Oh wait, there's also Michael Crichton.
Note to self: to borrow State of Fear from the library.

I particularly loved the ending to Gideon,
"Let us all understand that death is not an eraser. It does not remove the deeds or the meaning that existed in anyone's life. It does not make poor men rich or fallible. And when death comes, let us not romanticize its presence nor the person it takes from us. Let us see death for what it really is: a border that we all must cross, a border that, more than any other, defines the lives we are able to lead. Do not mourn for those who cross over. Rather, reflect on the definition they've left behind. It is the only truth we are able to know here on earth. When the definition is great, then celebrate it. When it is lacking, then learn from it and improve on it. And use it to make your own definition more truthful and loving and miraculous."

For a friction of a second, I overcame my fear of death.

    ------------SPOILER!------------

A very important person has a secret. A secret that could jeopardize his career should anyone find out.
    Murder. Never a beautiful thing.

The mother documented the whole incident in her diary and kept it in a safe.
Why she penciled it in? Apparently she was starting to forget things, including this (the heck, isn't that a good thing?).

One night, after a drink or two she accidentally slips about the incident and the diary.
And it leaked to a powerful aristocrat who, possessed by greed, decided to blackmail by hiring an up and coming author to do a ghost bibliography. And of course sends it to this lofty person. False names, false locations, same incident.

One thing lead to another, this important person couldn't take the pressure anymore, aims a gun to his mouth and blows his brains out. Epic.

Meanwhile, Carl Granville, the anonymous writer and his ex-gf Amanda Mays (who ends up his gf again at the end of the novel. Duh.) is caught in a cat and mouse game with the assassins employed by the aristocrat, Lord Augmon.
So they figure the only way to save their lives is to dig out the details of the story and trace it back to the source.
Eventually they find the town where havoc reeked, and the only living witness to the murder of... The US president's baby brother, Gideon, whom the president suffocated to death when he was 9 years of age. (Well back in the day they were too naive to realise that the baby was born with a defect due to radioactive waste and claimed it to be satanic instead. The 9 year old however saw it as a thing distancing him from his beloved mother. And there goes the pillow to the face.)

So Carl, Amanda and the witness survives the hired assassins and cooks up a plan to reveal the big secret. Only to realise the president has passed. Puzzled, Carl who initially thought the late president was out to get him seeks Shaneesa, Amanda's 'baby', the genius hacker to seek a source only to realise that the source had come to them. Father Patrick, who took the president's confession hours before blowing his brains to kingdom come unraveled his dark past to the priest. Father Patrick shaken up by the things he heard seeked solace in monastery somewhere in the mountains (I can't remember the name. hehe) sent a message for Carl to meet him.

By the time Carl gets there another assassin, whom turns out to be the girl he slept with during the writing of the ghost biblio. (Yes, it's very confusing and interesting)
They fight- good wins over evil- Carl and Father Patrick sits down to piece the missing pieces.

All of them fly to the president's funeral and come face to face with the mother. And they figure it all out. Lord Augmon and the president's wife is called by the mother... to discover that the former First Lady's plans to be the light of the despaired public, in the form of presidency shatters and Lord Augmon's reign on telecasting is not only shortened but forced into oblivion.
    The End.

    ------------END------------

I may have told it in a less interesting way, I know. Haha. But it's a stellar novel that you can't miss out on! And if you love it as much as I do, you'll go nuts for his other novels:
    Aphrodite,
    Midas,
    Icarus

and his latest I have yet to find
    Hades.
